Friends of Slovakia (FOS) proudly congratulates the Slovak American Society of Washington, D.C. (SASW) on celebrating its 35th anniversary. SASW was founded in the summer of 1989, a time of tremendous political and social change in Central Europe. Its earliest activities took place against the backdrop of popular protests against the communist governments in Poland, Hungary, and the German Democratic Republic, culminating in the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Velvet Revolution in what was then Czechoslovakia.
Over the past 35 years, SASW has organized countless lectures, webinars, cultural events, and charitable outreach efforts that educate participants about Slovakia and the Slovak-Americans and engage anyone interested in Slovakia.
FOS is honored to have partnered with SASW on several projects, including the Slovakia@30 Lecture Series in 2023 and our annual picnics each spring. We look forward to continuing this collaboration. Congratulations to our friends at SASW on this incredible milestone, and we wish you continued success in the years to come.
