Michael Žantovský, a distinguished Czech politician, writer, and diplomat, delivered the 2013 Czech and Slovak Annual Freedom Lecture titled “The Uncertainty of Freedom, and the Freedom of Uncertainty” at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. on November 12.

Michael Žantovský is a Czech politician, writer, translator, and diplomat. In 2015, he was appointed the Executive Director of the Václav Havel Library. He is the Honorary President and served as President of Aspen Institute Prague and as Vice-President of Aspen Institute Central Europe. He was a former chairman of the Civic Democratic Alliance and a senator in the Parliament of the Czech Republic. He has also served as an ambassador to the United Kingdom, the United States, and the State of Israel. Notably, he was the spokesman for President Václav Havel and a founding member and spokesman of the Civic Forum, which played a significant role in overthrowing the Communist regime. He is a graduate of Charles University in Prague and McGill University in Canada. In recognition of his achievements, he received the 2016 Czech and Slovak Transatlantic Award alongside former U.S. Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright.
